“LAST OF THE SUMMER WINE COUNTRY”, As
we head for Yorkshire we cross the heights of the
Pennines and drop down into “Last of the Summer Wine
Country”, visiting Holmfirth, the home of Nora’s House
and Sid’s Café - time for a quick cuppa. Then on to
our hotel.
A VISIT TO YORK is a must - England’s
finest historic city with over 2000 years of history.
Take the opportunity to visit a number of the countries
favourite attractions: the imposing York Minster (the
largest Gothic Cathedral in Northern Europe); The
National Railway Museum (European Museum of the Year
2001 and a spectacular free attraction, featuring
Stephenson’s Rocket, the only Japanese Bullet train
outside Japan, a virtual channel tunnel trip, historic
royal carriages and daily events); the JORVIK Viking
Centre (a time machine back to AD975 to experience
the sights, sounds and smells of Viking York); walk
the famous medieval walls and explore the narrow cobbled
streets of the Shambles, filled with antiques and
souvenirs. Truly a memorable city.
HOWARTH & SKIPTON A real taste of old Yorkshire
as we visit Howarth, home of the Bronte Sisters. Chance
to visit the Parsonage. Free time to explore the museum
and visit the tearooms. Then on to Skipton, crowned
with its Norman Castle.
EMMERDALE COUNTRY; through Harewood
(near the current film sets), Otley (the setting for
Hotten) and Esholt. the original setting for ‘Beckindale’.
Call into the ‘Woolpack’ for a quickie and stroll
around the village.
A Day of the OLD and NEW ARMLEY MILLS
- a must see museum of industrial life in a northern
cotton mill (entrance included).
HARROGATE - the floral spa town. Delightful
gardens and architecture. Chance to visit the famous
‘Betty’s Tea- Rooms’ |
