EXCURSIONS INCLUDE
DEPARTURE DAY A leisurely drive to the south
coast of Hampshire. We set sail from the little harbour
of Lymington for a scenic crossing of the Solent to
Yarmouth on the Isle of Wight. Our first taste of
the Island, as we cross to our hotel in Sandown.
THE NEEDLES at Alum Bay A tour along the South
Coast, calling into Isle of Wight Pearl and on to
the Needles at Alum Bay. Needles Park has a chairlift
to the beach (not included), from which you can see
the famous coloured sands, Needles rocks and lighthouse.
We continue on through Freshwater to Yarmouth with
its castle built by King Henry VIII (entrance not
included).
SHANKLIN and VENTNOR Enjoy a short coach tour
to Shanklin and nearby Ventnor. Shanklin is one of
the oldest resorts on the island, famous for its natural
springs. Shanklin Old Village boasts picturesque craft
and gift shop cottages clustered around the thatched
Crab Inn. Shanklin’s public parks and gardens are
a delight to visit. Tower Gardens and Rylstone Gardens
run alongside the Chine (a dramatic fissure in the
rock where a 45 ft waterfall cascades through boulders
and ferns to the shore). Ventnor is a delightful Victorian
town with a Mediterranean feel and is renowned as
one of the sunniest spots on the Island.
COWES and OSBORNE HOUSE A wonderful day to the
home of the famed regatta, Cowes, the world’s premier
yachting centre. Shopping in the narrow pedestrianised
High Street is a delight with an abundance of fashionable
clothing and emporia.
Plus, (for tours departing between May 5th & Sept
6th) entrance to magnificent Osborne House, holiday
home of Queen Victoria, preserved much as it was when
the Queen died there in 1901.
NEWPORT and GODSHILL Off to Newport for Market
Day. Lots to see, including excellent shopping, ancient
inns, the harbour, Carrisbrook Village. Returning,
we call into the island’s most picturesque village,
Godshill, with its thatched cottages and hill-top
church, an ideal stop for a cream tea.
Additional Excursion - RYDE (6, 7, & 8
Day Holiday’s Include all the above excursions PLUS
a tour along the coast through Bembridge to Ryde -“
the Gateway to the Island”. Stroll the Esplanade with
its marina, beautiful gardens, bowling green, boating
lake, outdoor cafés and the Victorian landmark - Appley
Tower. A plaque on the sea wall commemorates the epic
voyage of The First Fleet, which anchored off the
Mother Bank, just offshore, before setting sail for
Australia’s Botany Bay in 1787. |
