HEREFORD
& THE WYE VALLEY Following the Wye Valley
we pass through Ross On Wye, with its “Plague
Cross” and views over the river to Hereford
for Market day. Views across the city are dominated
by the 11th century Cathedral. Hereford offers
everything from the ancient to the modern. Its
most famous attraction is the 13th century Mappa
Mundi, a unique map of the world, and the world’s
largest Chained Library, with books dating from
the 8th century. Continuing to the foot of the
Brecon Beacons to Hay on Wye on the English
Welsh Border. Visitors from all over the world
descend upon this little town for one primary
reason: books. Boasting more than 30 specialist
and secondhand bookshops, this is the place
to look for that hard-to-find title.
CIRENCESTER & TETBURY
Our return day home includes Cirencester, an
important roman town second only to Londinium,
and Tetbury, set in one of the most beautiful
parts of the Cotswolds offering wonderful architecture
and an abundance of elegant antique shops &
coaching inns. |

Excursions
Include
BATH The first day of our holiday includes
a visit to the World Heritage Site of Roman Bath.
The rich diversity of museums, galleries, gardens
and attractions are all within easy distance of each
other. Of course, a visit to the historic Roman Baths
is thoroughly recommended.
The Picturesque COTSWOLDS are centred on
the gentle slopes of the Cotswold Hills and are officially
designated as an ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’;
the largest in England and Wales. The region is famous
for its ancient mellow ‘honey’ coloured limestone
villages that blend perfectly into the countryside
and its bustling market towns. Many have scarcely
altered since they grew up on the prosperity of the
medieval wool trade in the 15th and 16th centuries
and subsequently forgotten about for more then 300
years. Calling into Bourton-on-the- Water, Stow-on-the-
Wold, and Moreton-in-Marsh.
GLOUCESTER and CHELTENHAM. First a morning
visit to nearby Gloucester. A vibrant modern city
with a rich historic past. Visit Gloucester Cathedral
or the exciting restored historic docks - the fabulous
Victorian Warehouses are now filled with shops, museums
and attractions; the National Waterways Museum, the
Soldiers of Gloucestershire Museum, the Gloucester
Antique Centre, Merchants Quay Shopping Centre, waterfront
restaurants, bars and cafes. We continue on to the
spa town of Cheltenham, the most complete Regency
town in England. The town offers a wealth of quality
shops, tree lined walks and gardens to promenade.
Alternatively, continue on the coach to Sudeley Castle,
once home to Queen Katherine Parr, a delightful castle
and gardens (entrance is approximately £8).
